Christian and I (Sarah) are the parents of a 4 yr. old, beautiful, sweet boy named Sven who was diagnosed with Leukemia on 4.19.09. Immediately we started chemotherepy treatment for Sven with the Pediatric Oncology Center @ Stony Brook University Hospital on Long Island, NY. I will outline some highs and lows and most of all type some frustrations away :-)

Healthy eating minus the ladybugs

Going through all this cancer business has sort of left Sven in a permanent eat what you want stage, because we are just happy that he is eating. Now as we come upon the year mark of his diagnosis we are trying to teach him that his body needs to eat the proper things in order for it to grow healthy. Broccoli has been out as Sven declared 'I don't eat trees' so I was looking toward spinach (umm...green and leafy a plus, + popeye liked it) so I pop him on the counter and get my frozen box of birdseye spinach (my favorite brand in all) and we put some water in I let Sven spoon it around and then OMG a ladybug is in the spinach, Sven dropped the spoon and now declares  'I dont eat ladybugs either' that I have to agree. Hmmm anyone have a kid friendly non tree looking, ladybug free idea?

  2. Hmmm, not that I'm a big fan of the green stuff that's good for you, but how about asparagus or brussel sprouts? If you drown the sprouts in cheese, that might not be so bad. Then again....

  4. I am a sneaky Momma...I put veggies in foods my kids love! I puree them up, and hide them in there. It works like a charm! I still offer them on the side, so they know good food exists, but for the times they say no, they still ate it!
